Alarm System: Check (Day 142)

Got home from work today and took my time watching a sparrow jump around my front yard. It's been quite sometime since I've taken a moment to sit back and marvel at the little things. After entering the door to my front porch I noticed something very off about my house. My front door was wide open. I did what most people would consider a stupid thing. I went inside. Don't worry, I first looked around to see if anything just inside the door seemed out of place and it didn't. I took a step inside and saw the Tv was still there so I ventured farther in. I got back to my aunts bedroom and saw her cat sitting on her bed which seemed like a good sign nobody was still there since he would be hiding if the case had been different.

I was still really shaken and afraid so I left the house and called my aunt who didn't pick up and then her phone stopped ringing. That got me worried that someone had taken her.  I called my dad who proceeded to tell me I should call the police. I first called her office, found out she was there but was with a client, and then started to calm down. I felt a little awkward calling the police so I called a few friends who came over and checked the house with me. Thankfully no one was hiding in the basement or a room I didn't have the courage to check.

I'm just thankful that no one was hurt today. Nothing seems to be taken from the house either, but above all else I'm glad I didn't walk in on someone today. I don't know how they got through the front door which was locked and secured. It just reminds us that we need to always secure our alarm system before leaving for the day, which we have decided we will do daily.

  1. It's a good thing nothing was taken. Still, it's very alarming just to even think of the fact that someone was able to get inside your house after you've locked the doors and everything. This is the kind of incident that should remind us to always check our alarm systems. Our protection for our safety and assets shouldn't be taken lightly.
