Wrapping Up Summer (Day 159/160/161)

Friday was Bowling Night!! I made the joke that we could easily be picked out as a church group since you never find that many single people over the age of 21 at a bowling alley. But anyways, it was fun and I loved spending time with people I already knew and meeting new people as well. I also bowled over a 100 for the first time ever! Actually, I did it twice! I know it's not much to brag about but it's nice seeing my bowling skills finally coming together. You be seeing me at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Saturday a group of friends went out to a friend's land. We cooked out by the fire and ate a South African meal. We just enjoyed each other's company. Some threw a frisbee, some sat around a talked, and even some went squirrel hunting, which turned out to be unsuccessful. Highlight of the night was when we went in the house and sang. I have some very musically talented friends which warms my soul since I love praising God and having fun with it. The house sounded like someone had the speakers on full blast. The best part was there were only ten of there. To be the loud really meant that our hearts were in the right place. After quite a few people left, some of us headed down to the fire again and just watched the flames dance. It was around 1:30 when the last of us left. I really enjoy nights like those.

Sunday I got home from church and had a Facebook message from a friend. Right now we are both in the same place with jobs. We're both new to our areas and finding our place has taken some time. She'll be moving to Chicago in a few weeks and I'll be officially moving to Tulsa in a month. She told me she was reading her Bible and came across the passage where King David is giving Solomon the plans for the temple. She felt like it was meant for both of us. In verse 20 David is giving Solomon a pep talk and when she read it she interposed our names where Solomon's would be. "Katherine, Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the world of the Lord is finished."

And then she told me this, "We don't know how, where or why God is planning to use us. But I do know that he is going to use us. He gave us our creativity, our hearts for people, our broad world view for a reason. Not everyone has that and it's part of the gifts he's given us. We don't need to worry about where we'll be or what job we'll have because I believe that God is going to place us in the jobs that he wants us in and if we are doing his work, whatever it may be, we won't feel discontent or stuck or like we aren't making something of ourselves that's worth while. We are doing the Lord's work on earth and there is nothing more worth while than that. Even if it means that we work at an add agency or design firm and we are the one positive person in the office or the one person that is always willing to put others first."

Man I'm going to miss this girl. She's been with me since day one of college, through every project, through every class, through my struggles senior year, our trip to Africa, she was even the girl who helped take care of me when I got malaria. I could count on this girl to help me in just the way I needed it. I love you Jess and I hope you have great success in this next chapter of your life.
